Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, is presented for acts of conspicuous bravery, courage, and self-sacrifice away from the battlefield. It is awarded to both military personnel and civilians who perform daring and heroic deeds during peacetime. The medal stands as a symbol of valor, honor, and dedication to the nation.

To date, approximately 498 individuals have been honored with the Kirti Chakra, including a significant number who received it posthumously for their exceptional bravery during peacetime.
